Enthusiastic teachers at the “SimplyNano” kick-off event in ChurScience you can touch: High school teachers from various schools in Graub\u00fcnden immersed themselves in the fascinating world of nanotechnology at W\u00fcrth International AG in Chur on March 25. And they did not return empty-handed. As part of the SimplyNano 2 STEM promotion project, all schools received free class sets of experiment kits – filled to the brim with 41 practical experiments from the world of nanotechnology. <\/em><\/p>\n\n

Amazement instead of dry theory<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

The SimplyNano 2 cases make science tangible. Instead of dry theory, pupils will soon be able to try things out for themselves, experiment and understand. Why does water roll off lotus leaves? How can metal suddenly change its shape? And what do diapers have to do with high-tech? In future, pupils in Graub\u00fcnden will be dealing with questions like these in class. The nano-experiments build bridges from everyday phenomena to modern research and get young people excited about science and technology. <\/p>\n\n

Strong partners make the project possible<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

The cases and all teaching materials are free of charge for the schools. This is made possible thanks to the support of various foundations, companies and associations. The SimplyScience Foundation is the publisher and all the teaching materials were developed by the Innovation Society St. Gallen, which places great value on practical and easy-to-implement lessons. <\/p>\n\n

Business meets schools<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

The fact that the training took place directly at W\u00fcrth International in Chur underlines the practical relevance of the project. In addition to the nano experiments, the teachers were also given an insight into the company’s various apprenticeships. The link between school, science and business creates a close collaboration with a lasting effect far beyond the classroom: “For us, the targeted promotion of young talent is an investment in the future. Projects like this provide practical insights and strengthen interest in technology and innovation – precisely where qualified specialists will later be needed,” says Daniela Angius, Head of HR at W\u00fcrth International AG. <\/p>\n\n

Big rush for further training<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

The kick-off course was a complete success. The next three courses in Landquart, Gr\u00fcsch and Sils are already almost fully booked – a sign of the great interest in practical STEM education at schools in Graub\u00fcnden. Graub\u00fcnden is the 20th canton in which the award-winning SimplyNano cases are being used. A total of around 600 experiment kits are available to the upper secondary schools in Graub\u00fcnden.
